There is something about Summer that completely captivates my soul. The warmth of the sunshine creating freckles on my skin. The extra long days and wonderfully tranquil nights. Sinking into a pool chair with a good book or laughing around a picnic table with great beer and even better company. The summertime always brings a smile to my face and after a year of ups and downs, my smile shines even brighter during this particular Summer. Why? Well, this Summer marks the beginning of a new time in my life. A time in which I have learned to take control in the pursuit of what ignites my soul and makes me happy. Are there still a few kinks to work out? Always, but I am enjoying the process now more than ever.
Summer is a time for fun, laughter, adventure, family and friends. Long walks with the pup, lazy days by the pool, outdoor concerts and festivals, cookouts and al fresco dining. If you know me at all then you know that patio life is my favorite life. I much prefer sitting outside (even in the sweltering heat) to sitting inside amidst the cold, blowing, conditioned air.
In my most recent blog post, I shared several ways to help discover your passions in life. It is so important to get out, explore and try new things. It may be scary and you may feel completely out of your comfort zone but how else do you expect to find out what you truly love to do? There are so many opportunities to unearth new passions in life and what better time to start discovering these passions than a brand new season? With the official start of Summer last week, I thought it would be a great time to share my Summer bucket list. On this list you will find new activities that I would love to try, summertime events around Columbus, and places and spaces that I have been meaning to explore.
Take a look at my list and see if anything strikes your fancy! I would love the company 🙂
I have never been paddle boarding but it has been on my adventure list for quite some time now! I am determined to go before the end of summer creeps up on me! I could really use a friend to help motivate me to finally commit. Any takers…?
There are so many yoga events that are put on by local businesses around town! Here are a few of the upcoming events that I’d love to check out!
Native Cold Pressed Yoga Brunch at The Kitchen
Yoga Saturdays at Columbus Commons
When I lived in North Carolina, I used to go to the lake ALL the time! I haven’t ventured to any bodies of water since moving back to Ohio so I am open to suggestions. Also, pet friendly is preferred- Rocky loves the water!
I absolutely LOVE spinning at Cycle614 and Cycle Bar but now that it’s Summer I would love to take my cycling outdoors! With bike trails throughout the city and surrounding neighborhoods, Columbus proves to be a great spot for cycling. This city also has a bike rental system (similar to Divvy Bikes in Chicago) that allows you to rent a bike for a set amount of time and simply return to any rental station throughout the city.
A great way to experience all of the breweries that have been popping up around the city. As you check locations off your list, you acquire tasting glasses and at the end to the trail you receive a flight tray! Free gifts for drinking beer? Sounds good to me! Check out the participating breweries here Columbus Ale Trail
Columbus is home to SO many breweries, all with their own story to tell. A unique way to learn more about the history of the city that you love while sampling some great brews along the way. Columbus Brew Adventures offers walking and driving tours throughout central Ohio including a downtown tour, Brewery District walking tour and even a pizza and beer pairing tour!
There are SO many amazing coffee shops around Columbus. I only have two requirements- awesome baked goods and classic latte art. Just like the Ale Trail, Columbus also offers a Coffee Trail. Get your card stamped at participating locations and redeem at the end for free coffee lovers t-shirt! Two coffee joints that are currently on my list to check out include Bottoms Up and Flowers and Bread
I used to hike all of the time in North Carolina but since moving back to Ohio I have yet to hit the trails. I know Hocking Hills has great hiking but if anyone knows of any places closer to Columbus to hike please let me know too!
What better way to spend a sunny afternoon than with good food and a great book in the park? Plus, it’s free!
Located just 30 minutes from Columbus near Lancaster, Rockmill Brewery is a small batch brewer offering Belgian inspired farmhouse ales. This brewery has been on my list of places to explore since moving back to Ohio. Picturesque views and great beer sounds like the perfect way to spend a Saturday in the Summer.
Columbus Commons hosts several events throughout the year including food truck rodeos, outdoor concerts, group fitness classes, movie nights and more. The Columbus Symphony Orchestra performs on several Saturday’s throughout the Summer at Picnic with the Pops.
The next Sunlight Market is on July 16th and this girl doesn’t have to work! Shopping and brunch outside? It doesn’t get much better than that! Sunlight Market
The second Saturday night of every month, Gay street also hosts the Moonlight Market at which you can enjoy shopping and dining!
Another opportunity to check out local businesses, Grandview (one of my favorite neighborhoods in Columbus) hosts this sidewalk market complete with live music, food, beer and pop up shops! Next event is July 29th.
I still can’t believe that I have yet to make it to the Scioto Mile *face palm*. Located just along the Scioto River you can also find the Audubon Metro Park. Boating, canoeing, cycling, rock climbing and more all in once place!
So there you go. My list is by no means complete and I’m always finding out about new sights and events popping up around this City. Sometimes you don’t have to escape to find new adventures.
