As we move through life, we experience balance in various forms. On one hand, we quite literally find ourselves balancing on our feet everyday. Walking, running, yoga or any other type of physical activity all require us to maintain balance. On the other hand, we more often than not find ourselves having to figuratively balance certain aspects of our lives. Commitments, relationships, feelings and emotions (ohh the emotions!) all require a great amount of juggling and balance.
So, as we deal with the concept of balance each and every day, there is bound to be a time in which we feel completely… well… UNbalanced. Just this morning, while I was at my usual hot power yoga class, I could not for the life of me find my balance. Crescent lunge? HA! A simple pose that I can usually flow into with ease seemed completely impossible today. I struggled to remain still and instead found myself wobbling and toppling over in almost every pose I entered! Frustration didn’t even begin to describe my practice….
Now, while it may be fairly common to feel off-balance while performing physical exercise (especially when you are balancing on one leg with your arms wrapped and bound behind your back and under your other leg….you feel me?) have you ever felt off-balance in a more spiritual or mental state?
Think about the last time that you had an “off day”. From the minute you woke up, things just don’t feel right and everything imaginable seemed to go wrong. Think about how you felt. Frustration? Confusion? Why me?
Maybe you blame it on the weather, the day of the week (Hello, Monday!) or waking up on the wrong side of the bed. Or maybe there is a more spiritual explanation that you’ve never considered.
Before my session with Cherise, I was fairly familiar with the concept of Chakras. As you all know, I am very much into yoga. I also have dabbled in the art of essential oils and more recently become interested in understanding how Chakras work in our body. There are seven main Chakras, or energy centers, located at various points throughout our bodies. Each Chakra represents and is connected to emotions, sensations and feelings that we experience.
The purpose of my session with Cherise was to analyze each of my Chakras and ultimately balance them using strategically placed crystals and essential oils. The first step was to do a quick crystal reading of each Chakra to determine which were closed and which were open. After my reading it was determined that my root, sacral and solar plexus chakras were fairly closed.
As you read previously, your Root Chakra represents your foundation, or feeling of stability. I wasn’t terribly surprised to learn that my Root Chakra was closed, especially if viewing it from a financial perspective. I mean come on, we all worry about money at some point or another! The fact that my Sacral Chakra was closed also wasn’t surprising considering I am a highly emotional individual. I think that many of us struggle with self-confidence and self-worth so it also wasn’t a shock to learn that my Solar Plexus Chakra was slightly closed too.
After analyzing my 7 Chakras, it was time to balance out my energy centers. While laying down on my back, Cherise placed a small stone disc on each Chakra, from my Root to my Crown. She then placed various crystals and essential oils on each disc and I was left to my thoughts in a very calm and serene setting. The room was dimly lit and there was a soundtrack playing that consisted of soothing noises and subtle chanting. Coming from the girl who can barely lay still for a 5 minute Savasana at the end of each yoga practice, I was a little worried that I wouldn’t be able to last the 15-20 minutes that Cherise planned to leave me in this room! However, I felt completely relaxed and I very much enjoyed my brief moment of pure tranquility (for the first time in a long time…)
At the end of my balancing session, Cherise presented me with my own personal essential oil blend, based on the analysis of my initial reading. She recommended that I spend a lot of time in nature and that walking barefoot through the grass would be great for opening up any closed energy centers. I have been struggling with sleeping and Cherise suggested that I use the oil blend on the bottom of my big toe at night when I’m headed to bed. She was also nice enough to give me an amethyst crystal, which is known to induce sleep, to place on my nightstand. Trust me when I say, I can use all the help I can get when it comes to sleep!
I had zero expectations when I went in for my session with Cherise but I left completely satisfied and intrigued. Cherise was so kind and made me feel incredibly comfortable. I learned so much about my energy centers and how our surroundings and mental state can affect each one. I am excited to follow Cherise on her journey as a spiritual healer and look forward to becoming more in tune with my own mind, body and spirit based on the information that Cherise presented to me!
